Refuel after your work out with a nutritious and healthy breakfast in Thyme’s light filled Home Kitchen.
Then join Rosemary Ferguson, Functional Med Practitioner Nutritionist for an hour talk, exploring the history of fasting, different methods of fasting, the benefits and how it can be effectively used for optimal health in contrast to dysfunctional eating and negative relationships with food.
The history of fasting differs across cultures, some part of religious practices, sacrifice and also a way to purify both body and soul. The first recorded practices of fasting dates back to ancient Greece when mathematician and philosopher Pythagoras used to abstain to improve mental clarity and spark creativity. More famously noted was Hippocrates use of fasting as a medical means of restoring health – he believed feeding the body when sick would accelerate the illness.
“To eat when you are sick, is to feed your illness”
The benefits of fasting include reduced inflammatory markers, aid in autophagy, mitochondrial support, digestive aid through resting the gut, mental clarity, blood sugar balancing, supports healthy ageing, weight loss/weight management and much more.
