Meet the Maker: Studio Vero

Romanos Brihi and Venetia Rudebeck, a.k.a. Studio Vero, have been creating unique, considered and timeless interiors for almost ten years, combining a love of art and antiques with their signature use of colour and texture.

  1. Where did Studio Vero begin?

We were at school together and always had a special creative bond. Studio Vero started as a conversation between best friends that grew steadily until its official launch in 2014. Our mutual passion for design and complementary skills set the foundation for Studio Vero’s evolution into the dynamic and thoughtful design practice it is today.

2. What’s your primary source of design inspiration?

We often find inspiration from other interiors, especially during our travels. Art and antique rugs frequently inspire unexpected colour combinations and help kick off the palette for a scheme. However, ultimately it comes from each other - one of the joys of working together is sharing ideas; it may sound like a cliché, but two heads really are better than one.

3. Could you tell us about your creative process?

Our first and most important step is getting to know the client. We have a wonderful time really delving into what they want to achieve and how they want to live in their home. At Studio Vero, all projects are approached with a consistent internal process. The initial phase is a detailed design consultation, where we get to know our client’s likes, dislikes, dreams and aspirations for their home. Once we’ve established a clear brief, we move on to the concept phase. Here, we convey our aesthetic vision through sketches, imagery and preliminary layouts. We collaborate closely, developing ideas and sourcing materials together. There’s nothing better than a sourcing trip to a gallery, market or even abroad! The resulting design embodies a sense of curated simplicity where every piece is intentional, and no detail is overlooked.

4. What has been your most inspiring renovation or restoration project to date?

We’re currently working on a Queen Anne house in Berkshire. The renovation is being carried out phase by phase, with a thoughtful and sympathetic approach. We are striving to bring back the original character of the house whilst bringing it up to date and including all that is required for contemporary family life. It’s a constant learning curve and hugely challenging at times, but at the same time it brings a vast sense of achievement.

5. What advice would you give to your younger self (selves)?

Have fun and say yes to (almost!) everything.

6. How would you describe the power of nature in your design work?

We’re hugely influenced by the location of a home. A room with a view is the ultimate luxury – bringing the outside in is extremely powerful. Now more than ever, we believe in the restorative power of nature and its ability to bring balance, tranquility and a sense of well-being. Whether through carefully framed vistas, raw textures or biophilic elements, we design interiors that reflect and celebrate the natural world, making every space feel both grounding and alive.
